Dear Lyla

Even when you save a single life, it is a BIG thing in the eyes of god and he considers it. If we do not eat animals, it is not that we are doing so for saving other animals, but for maintaining the order of god. Meat eaters are not what a human was designed to be.
Now start counting how many you save by not eating a chicken. One chicken grows up and breeds, then its offspring and so on. Count how many will be there in 80 years (average human life).
Another fact for you, there are HUNDREDS OF HEALTH DISORDERS THAT ONLY A MEAT EATER IS PRONE TO HAVE. Save yourself and count this also.

Just think supply and demand, the more people who are not buying and consuming meat, the less will be slaughtered and sold.
You are making a difference, maybe not a big one, but you are contributing. If everyone thought that by going veg the wouldn't save anything, we wouldn't get anywhere

You mean animals that are saved from slaughter because you don't eat meat?

Zero as in none.

Vegetarians comprise only about 2% of the popultion .The animal industry will not "save" one animal because somebnody is a vegetarian. Fact is, the animal industry is bigger than ever with higher demand locally and abroad. US beef is in very high demand in Asia and elswhere. And with the dollar weakening against foreign currencies, US goods including beef, turkey and lamb, are actually cheaper and more affordable than before.

The "I am saving 100 animals a year" is a "feel good" myth propagted by anti-meat, pro-vegetarian groups. However, tha shoudn't deter you from the act of NOT CONTRIBUTING to the meat industry. If you believe in that ,then that's what you should do

<a href="http://kansieo.com">save</a>

None. You have to take into consideration the animals that are killed in the farming of your food, the transport of that food, that are killed because of the road your food is transported on, that is displaced by the farms that grow your food, that are displaced because of the need for you to have a home, that are killed in any of the steps that lead up the manufacturing of the animal byproduct alternatives you use, that were killed in the steps that lead up to the manufacturing of any item you use in your life, etc... Just because you don't eat animals doesn't mean animals haven't died so you can live.

The only animals you can say you save are the animals you yourself take away from an impending death and you keep a watch on them until they die of natural causes. How many is that that you've done that for?

<a href="http://mycaffeinatedcontent.com">Create a video blog</a>

These meat eaters just don't understand supply and demand.
Not buying a product reduces sales and thus production of that product, in this case meat.

So it saves plenty of suffering, and personally I'd rather not be born than endure such a high level of abuse.

It seems that different sources have differing opinions on how many animals are "saved" each year by have a vegetarian or vegan lifestyles.

I.E 42

I.E. 93

I.E. 35 (only mammals and birds)

I.E. Over 100

Some have postulated that none are saved because the meat eater will just consume the extra or that certain animals will not be born. Well it may be true to a certain extent that some of the extra meat will be consumed or go to waste. I believe however that less meat will hence be produced in the future as less finances and and a notable decrease in demand will have its intended affect.

Another thing I can save is that by having a vegetarian or vegan attitude one is less likely to kill or have killed an animal that for consumption through personally raising, fishing, and or hunting. It is not just the industry that we are affecting but everything that surrounds us.

One thing needs to be understood for certain is the amount of overall suffering is decreased by living such lifestyles. Don't let the imps of doubt try to tell you otherwise.

Continue to listen to your conscience and not only will you help to create a happier world, but that happiness will reflect back and shine upon you in ways you would have never imaged otherwise if you had not chosen to take this most noble path.

Many Blessings : )

<a href="http://kansieo.com">save</a>

Like people said above, you're not actually saving animals' lives because farmers only breed as many as they need, so you just save some additional animals from being born.
I think vegetarianism makes a good statement about the terrible means and condition of edible meat production in this country. It's not really about saving lives (I mean... they're not going to let any of the cows off the hook!), it's more about exposing the terrible conditions of a terrible industry.
So, in a way, you can make just as much of a statement by buying cage-free eggs, chicken, etc. No offense, vegetarians! Both are great things to do.

Each year 50 billion animals are slaughtered for food around the world - to feed 6 billion people. Just do the math.... it doesn't seem fair or just to me.

By switching to a vegetarian diet, you will save more than 100 animals a year.
